Recent statistics obtained from the OAG database reveal that nine of the top thirty airports with the highest additional seat capacity growth are located in China. The analysis examined seat capacity for week commencing 17th October 2005 compared with the same period in 2004. Beijing Capital International Airport exhibited the greatest growth with an additional 157,000 seats offered on a weekly basis.
Within the top thirty airports half are located either within India, China or the rest of Asia Pacific. Duncan Alexander, OAG's Managing Director of Business Development said "These unique facts provided from our databases pinpoint the economic growth areas of the World".
Top Ten Global Airports Seat Capacity
Three European Airports feature in the top ten: Istanbul Ataturk, Manchester and Madrid Barajas Airports. Other European Airports included in the top thirty are Barcelona, London Gatwick, Liverpool John Lennon and London Heathrow.
Whilst not making the top ten, Dubai and Lagos showed significant growth with increases of 79,500 and 52,500 additional seats respectively.
Salt Lake City is the only North American Airport to feature in the top ten list with a further three North American and two Latin American Airports featuring in the top thirty.
